74498 Antique Russian
Tribal Bordjalou Kazak Rug with Compartment Design, Caucasian Rug 02'06 X 03'04
From Esmaili Rugs Collection. With
its perfectly worn-in charm, time-softened colors and edgy elements, this
weathered Bordjalou Kazak rug will create a warm, lived-in look and takes on a
curated look that feels timeless. Based on traditional and ancient tribal
designs from the Caucasus region, this hand-knotted wool antique Russian Kazak
rug features a compartment design. Eight large-scale ram's horn motifs grace
the abrashed red field dotted with rosettes and two s-hooks; five ram's horn
motifs are unbound, and three ram's horn motifs are enclosed in blue squares.
The ram's horn symbolizes protection, longevity and fertility. The s-hooks
allegedly depict the dragon and even signify the ancient Zoroastrian symbol
representing the sun. The number five equates to the number of unbound ram's
horn motifs in the field and also indicates the five astronomical figures
clearly seen from Earth; the sun, the moon, Mars, Mercury and Venus. It is
finished with an interlocking triangular border. Two very thin barber pole
stripes flank the running water guard bands which represent inner purification
and sustaining life. Distressed. Desirable Age Wear. Age Wear. Hand-knotted wool. Made in Caucasus Region (Old Russia). Measures: 02'06 X 03'04.
